Iglesia de Calderón

Plain parish church on the main square

The parish church of San José de Calderón sits on the north side of the central plaza. It is a modest white-washed colonial-era building with a single bell tower, restored in the 20th century after earthquake damage and still the focal point of the town's religious life.

The interior is simple: a long nave with painted wooden ceiling and a few saints in their alcoves. Worth a few minutes on the way past, and a good vantage point on the morning markets that take over the square on weekends.
