The tortoise breeding centre is one of the easiest and most useful wildlife stops on Isabela. Young giant tortoises are raised here until they are strong enough to be released, and older animals show how different the island's tortoise populations can be.
The walk there is part of the visit. A boardwalk leads west from Puerto Villamil through wetlands and lagoons, often with flamingos along the way.
