Minas de Azufre is a less common Sierra Negra excursion, reaching sulfur deposits and fumaroles inside the volcanic landscape. The smell, heat and bright mineral colour make the geology feel immediate rather than abstract.
Tours do not run as regularly as the standard Sierra Negra and Volcan Chico hike, so ask around in Puerto Villamil before building a day around it.
