Wall of Tears

Prison-era stone wall reached by a wildlife-rich walk or bike ride from Puerto Villamil.

The Wall of Tears is a hard, strange relic of Isabela's penal-colony years. Prisoners were forced to build the stone wall in brutal conditions, and the monument is stronger because the surrounding landscape is so quiet.

Most visitors go by bike or on foot from Puerto Villamil. The route is half the point, passing beaches, lagoons, viewpoints, marine iguanas and sometimes giant tortoises before reaching the wall.
