Playa Murciélago

The main city beach, a wide arc of pale sand on the western side of the bay. The name (Bat Beach) refers to the bat-like shape of the bay rather than any wildlife you might see. The Malecón Escénico runs along the back, lined with seafood restaurants, bars, and craft stalls, and the beach is busy with locals, surfers, and the occasional cruise-ship visitor.

The sand is clean, the waves are moderate, and lifeguards are on duty at weekends. The undertow can be strong outside the central section — pay attention to the flag. Sunsets here are reliably good; the bars on the Malecón fill up as the light fades.
