Manta's appeal is split between its beaches, its working waterfront, and the Manabí coastal hinterland. The pre-Columbian Manta culture left ceramics and stone seats that fill the city's main museum; the Tarqui fish market gives a daily display of what comes off the Pacific; and a short drive inland leads to the Panama-hat town of Montecristi and the long beach at San Lorenzo.
