A long, almost empty surf beach about 45 minutes south of Manta, past Montecristi. Brown sand, big Pacific swell, a small fishing community at the southern end, and very little development. The waves are best for intermediate surfers; for swimmers the rips can be punishing.
A handful of basic comedores along the beach do whole fried fish, rice, and patacones. Quiet enough on weekdays that you can have a long stretch of the coast to yourself.
