Puerto de Manta

The deep-water commercial port — Ecuador's second largest after Guayaquil and the country's main tuna terminal. You cannot wander the docks, but the lookout at the foot of the Malecón gives a clear view of the cranes, the long-line tuna boats, the bulk carriers loading bananas, and the navy frigates that share the harbour. Cruise ships call here a few times a year, the only time the centre of town tilts noticeably toward foreign visitors.
