A twenty-minute walk from central Otavalo, this 18-metre waterfall tumbles through a wooded ravine into a clear pool. The site is sacred to the OtavaleƱo community, who perform ritual cleansing ceremonies here before the Inti Raymi solstice festival in June. The surrounding forest is managed as a small reserve, and the walk from the weaving village of Peguche makes for a pleasant half-day excursion. Come early in the morning if you want the place to yourself.
