The Jatunyacu (meaning "big water" in Kichwa) is Tena's most popular rafting river, offering a full-day class III-IV run through forested gorges. The water is fast and genuinely exciting without requiring expert experience — most operators take fit beginners. Trips typically launch near the village of El Chaco and finish at the confluence with the Napo, passing through jungle-lined canyons where you are unlikely to see another raft all day. Book through any of the tour operators near the bus terminal; prices are competitive and generally include transport, equipment, and lunch.
