Cayenne's town hall is an elegant tropical adaptation of French civic architecture, built in the late 19th century: pale stuccoed walls, tall green-shuttered windows, and a sloping wooden balcony designed for the climate. It dominates one end of the Rue de Rémire, a few blocks from the Place des Palmistes.
The building is still the working seat of the municipal government; visitors can admire the facade but cannot generally enter beyond the lobby. A good photo stop on a walking tour of the colonial centre.
