Tropic Alizés sails an eighteen-metre catamaran to the Îles du Salut from the Pointe des Roches at Kourou, leaving at half past seven and sailing rather than motoring when the wind allows. The day takes in Île Royale, where the penal-colony buildings and the squirrel monkeys are, the crossing to Île Saint-Joseph, and a circuit of Royale with the history told from the deck.
The same company runs the shorter trip out of Dégrad des Cannes to the Îlet la Mère, the island of monkeys and ruins off Rémire-Montjoly.
