By air
Almost all international visitors arrive at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (IATA: GEO), about 40km south of Georgetown. The airport has good connections to North America and a handful of European and Caribbean destinations. Airlines serving Georgetown include American Airlines (Miami, New York JFK seasonal), JetBlue (New York JFK), United Airlines (Houston), Caribbean Airlines (New York JFK, Toronto, London), KLM (Amsterdam), and Copa Airlines (Panama City). The KLM Amsterdam flight is the longest non-stop route at around nine hours and is useful for European travellers.
From the airport, taxis to central Georgetown take about 45–60 minutes depending on traffic and cost roughly US$30–40. Use a taxi from the official rank inside the terminal rather than accepting offers from drivers outside.
From neighbouring countries
From Suriname, the main crossing is by ferry across the Corentyne River between Springlands/Corriverton on the Guyana side and South Drain/Nieuw Nickerie on the Suriname side. The crossing takes about 30 minutes. Surinam Airways also operates flights between Georgetown and Paramaribo.
There is no practical road crossing from Brazil into the populated parts of Guyana. The border town of Lethem in the Rupununi is connected to the Brazilian town of Bonfim by a road bridge over the Takutu River, but reaching Lethem from Georgetown requires either a flight or a very long, rough overland journey.
The land border with Venezuela is officially open but not recommended for tourist travel given the political situation in Venezuela.
