For two weekends in late September and early October, Areguá hosts its annual Fiesta de la Frutilla — the strawberry festival that has become the town's biggest event. Stalls along Calle Estigarribia sell strawberries by the bowl, strawberry empanadas, strawberry liqueur, strawberry chipa.
Crowds are heavy and parking is impossible, but it is one of the few times Areguá feels properly busy. Local musicians play guarania and polca paraguaya through the afternoon. The festival coincides with the end of the harvest, so quality is at its peak.
