Eating Out

Asuncion's food scene is centred on grilled meat — Paraguay has some of the best beef in South America and is not shy about it. The typical midday meal (almuerzo) is heavy and cheap: a meat-based main dish with rice, cassava, and a soup. The city has decent restaurants for all budgets, concentrated in the Villa Morra and Carmelitas neighbourhoods, with the historic centre better for casual lunches than evening dining.
