Asuncion's sights are concentrated in the historic centre along the Paraguay River, where colonial buildings rub shoulders with neo-classical monuments and open plazas. The main attractions are walkable from each other, though the heat makes midday exploration exhausting. Allow a half day for the historic core; the botanical garden and Mercado Cuatro are separate excursions worth their own trip.
