Ancash's attractions range from the world's highest tropical mountain range and its attendant glacial lakes and treks, to one of the most important archaeological sites in pre-Columbian South America. The Cordillera Blanca dominates the region, and most activities centre on the mountains and the valleys below them. Huaraz is the base for almost everything.
