Puente Fierro, also known as Puente Bolivar, is a metal bridge from Arequipa's industrial age, spanning the Chili River west of the historic centre. Its riveted structure and open ironwork make a sharp contrast with the city's pale sillar churches and colonial streets.
It is a quick sight, but a useful one if you like cities beyond their postcard core. Cross or view it as part of a riverside wander, and use it to read Arequipa as a working city shaped by engineering as well as monasteries and volcano views.
