The colonial church of La Virgen del Socorro sits at the top of a small hill at the north end of the beach, visible from most of the village. Built in the sixteenth century, it is one of the oldest churches on Peru's northern coast. The climb up the steps rewards visitors with a good view over the bay, the old pier, and the reed boats drying on the sand below.
