The dunes around Huacachina rise more than 100 metres above the oasis and are perfect for sandboarding. Boards can be hired for a few soles at the oasis; for a more guided experience, the standard dune-buggy tours include several boarding runs of increasing steepness.
Most visitors strap on the board and slide down face-first, which is faster and easier than trying to stand up snowboard-style. Bring sunglasses, a scarf to keep sand out of your face, and shoes you can empty out afterwards.
