The Sanctuary of the Lord of Luren is Ica's most important pilgrimage church, dedicated to a wooden image of the crucified Christ that has been venerated here for centuries. The original sanctuary was destroyed in the 2007 earthquake; the current church is a modern rebuild.
The two great processions of the Señor de Luren, in the third week of October and in Holy Week, draw enormous crowds and effectively shut down the city for several days. Outside festival times the church is quiet, but the image itself remains the focus of local devotion.
