Pampas Galeras Vicuña Reserve

Andean plateau reserve with Peru's largest vicuña population

A national reserve on the Andean plateau 90 km east of Nazca at around 4,200 metres above sea level. The reserve protects one of the largest vicuña populations in the world — about 70% of Peru's total. Vicuñas and guanacos move freely across the puna grassland; viscachas, Andean ducks, eagles, and condors are also regularly seen. The road from Nazca climbs steeply through the Andes, offering dramatic scenery. Half-day tours depart from Nazca town.
