Malecón Grau

The Malecón Grau is Pacasmayo's seafront promenade — a wide walkway running along the bay from the lighthouse point in the north to the old pier at the centre of town. The road beside it is lined with republican-era houses, some still in excellent condition, reflecting the wealth of the town in its late 19th-century shipping heyday. At sunset, the promenade fills with locals walking, cycling, and watching the light change over the Pacific — one of the genuinely free pleasures of the northern Peruvian coast.

The views from the Malecón take in the full sweep of the bay, with the pier extending into the water at the centre and the lighthouse point to the north catching the first spray of incoming swells. The colonial houses along the road behind it are worth a slow walk — the ironwork balconies, corniced facades, and weathered painted plaster belong to a style of tropical republican architecture rarely preserved this well in coastal Peru.
