The Central Suriname Nature Reserve protects about 1.6 million hectares of mostly primary tropical forest. It links the former Raleighvallen, Tafelberg, and Eilerts de Haan reserves into a single UNESCO World Heritage site whose scale is hard to grasp: rivers, lowland forest, granite outcrops, and mountains extend far beyond the small areas a visitor can reach.
Raleighvallen is the established visitor gateway. Trips focus on the Coppename River, forest trails, birdlife, and the climb toward Voltzberg. The rest of the reserve is not a casual touring circuit.
This is costly, remote travel. Confirm that the facilities are operating, what the flight or boat plan includes, and who handles an evacuation before booking. A few days are the minimum that makes the logistics worthwhile.
