The Argentino Hotel is worth looking at even if you are not staying there. Opened in 1930, it was built on a scale that says everything about Francisco Piria's ambitions for the resort.
The building is not subtle, and that is part of its charm. Together with the rambla and the castle, it gives Piriapolis the feel of a resort town imagined before Uruguay's beach glamour moved east.
