Monumento al Sol Naciente is one of Barquisimeto's most recognisable modern landmarks, a large public sculpture associated with Venezuelan kinetic art. Its coloured vertical planes change character as you move around it, which is exactly the point: the work is less a fixed object than a small exercise in perception.
It is a quick stop, but a worthwhile one if you are already crossing the eastern side of the city. Barquisimeto has several bold modern monuments, and this is among the easiest to read and photograph. Visit in strong daylight, when the colour and shadow do the work.
