Playa Grande is the main beach at Puerto Colombia, a broad crescent of dark sand backed by coconut palms and the green slopes of Henri Pittier National Park. The water is warm, clear, and calm enough for swimming most of the year, protected by a shallow bay. Fishing boats are beached at the northern end; the southern section is where families and weekend visitors spread out. On weekends, especially in high season, Playa Grande fills up with Venezuelans from Caracas and Maracay, with music, food stalls, and a lively atmosphere. Arrive early if you want space and quiet.
Playa Grande
A story
Playa Grande sits in Puerto Colombia, the fishing village that has grown up beside Choroni to handle the weekend visitor traffic. The two towns are now effectively one, connected by a short walk along the coast road, though Choroni retains its quieter colonial character while Puerto Colombia has the beach infrastructure.
