Getting There

Margarita has its own airport, Santiago Marino Caribbean International Airport (PMV), near Porlamar. Domestic flights connect to Caracas and other Venezuelan cities, and there are occasional international charters. From the mainland, ferries run from Puerto La Cruz and CumanĂ¡ to the port at Punta de Piedras on the island's south coast. The ferry crossing takes around two to four hours depending on the vessel.

Getting from the airport or ferry terminal into town is straightforward -- taxis and shared minibuses (por puestos) are available at both.
