Puerto la Cruz is a seafood town. The pier-side restaurants along Paseo Colón serve fish straight off the boats — grouper, snapper, dorado — usually grilled whole and served with patacones, white rice, and a salad. The local style of empanada, fried and filled with fish or cheese, is one of the famous food specialities of the eastern coast.
