By air. Puerto la Cruz is served by José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport (PBL), 5 km south of the city centre. Flights connect to Caracas, Margarita Island, and a handful of other Venezuelan cities. International services have been very limited since the country's economic crisis.
By bus. The bus terminal is in the centre of town. Buses run all day to Caracas (about 5 hours), Cumaná (1.5 hours), Maturín, and Ciudad Bolívar; long-distance buses (sometimes with air-conditioning) run overnight as well.
By ferry. Conferry and other operators run car ferries from the Guanta port (a short taxi ride east of Puerto la Cruz) to Margarita Island. Service is irregular and the schedule is best confirmed in person on the day.
Note. Travel within Venezuela has been difficult in recent years — fuel shortages, road closures, and security issues are common. Check current conditions before you go.
