San Cristóbal is connected to Caracas and other Venezuelan cities by domestic flights through Paramillo Airport. Check current airline schedules carefully — Venezuela's aviation sector has seen significant changes in recent years.
The most common route for international travelers is overland from Colombia. The border crossing at San Antonio del Táchira, about 56 kilometres west of San Cristóbal, connects to Cúcuta on the Colombian side. This is one of the busiest border crossings in South America and is generally straightforward for tourists, though checking current conditions is advisable.
From within Venezuela, there are frequent bus services from Caracas (a long journey of 12+ hours), Mérida, and Barinas. The terminal de pasajeros (bus terminal) is well-organised by Venezuelan standards.
