Eating Out

Valencia's food scene leans on Venezuelan staples done well: arepas at any time of day, pabellón criollo (shredded beef, black beans, rice and plantain) at lunch, and a strong tradition of parrilla in the evenings. The Avenida Bolívar Norte and the area around the Sambil mall hold the largest concentration of mid-range restaurants. Areperas like Doña Arepa around the centre serve cheap, filling breakfasts. For something more substantial, La Estancia and similar parrillas grill Venezuelan beef over wood and serve it with a side of yuca frita. Italian and Lebanese influence — both long-established immigrant communities — show up in pasta and shawarma places across the city.
