The Pic des Singes — Monkeys' Peak — is the main viewpoint in Gouraya National Park and the most visited spot in the hills above Béjaïa. It takes its name from the Barbary macaques that are reliably encountered near the summit, accustomed enough to human presence to approach visitors, especially those carrying food.
The drive up follows a switchback road above the city with increasingly panoramic views over the Gulf of Béjaïa, the port, and the Soummam valley spreading inland. At the peak itself, the view takes in the full arc of the bay. The macaques are entertaining if you keep your food secured — they are bold and resourceful, and small bags left unattended will be investigated. From the viewpoint, trails continue through the national park for those who want to walk further.
