When to Go

The best time to visit Béjaïa is spring (April to June) or early autumn (September to October). Summer is hot and the beaches are crowded with Algerian families taking their annual holiday — the coast around Béjaïa is one of the most popular summer destinations in northern Algeria. July and August see the biggest crowds and the highest prices, but the atmosphere is energetic if you don't mind sharing.

The Kabyle mountains inland have a cooler microclimate and are pleasant for hiking in spring. Winter is mild on the coast — rarely cold — but the mountains can see snow, which cuts off some of the interior roads.
