The main reason most visitors come to Cherchell, and one of the best small archaeological museums in North Africa. The collection was assembled from excavations across the ancient city of Caesarea and includes marble statues, portrait busts, mosaic floors, coins, and funerary objects spanning several centuries of occupation.
The sculpture is the highlight. Several pieces are of exceptional quality — refined enough to confirm that this was not a provincial backwater but a royal capital with direct links to Rome and Athens. The mosaic floors, displayed flat in the gallery, show hunting scenes and mythological figures in rich detail.
The museum occupies a modest building in the town centre. Labels are in French and Arabic. Opening hours can be irregular; mornings are the most reliable time to visit.
