Cherchell is about 90 kilometres west of Algiers along the coastal road. By car from Algiers, allow around two hours depending on traffic; the road passes through attractive coastal and mountain scenery.
Buses and shared taxis (louages) run from Algiers to Cherchell, departing from the western bus terminals. The journey takes roughly two to three hours. There is no rail connection.
Cherchell combines naturally with Tipasa, which lies about 30 kilometres to the east along the same coastal road, making it straightforward to visit both in a single day trip from Algiers.
