Cherchell's appeal is almost entirely archaeological. The town sits on the ruins of Roman Caesarea, and the museum draws visitors from across Algeria and beyond. Beyond the museum, fragments of the ancient city surface throughout the modern streets — a theatre, an amphitheatre, stray columns — all quietly coexisting with everyday Algerian life.
