Getting There

Benguela Airport (IATA: BUG) has flights to and from Luanda operated by TAAG Angola Airlines, making it the standard way to arrive. The road from Luanda south along the coast is about 700 kilometres and in variable condition — possible in a good vehicle but time-consuming. The Benguela Railway connects to Lobito 30 kilometres to the north, which has the region's main deep-water port; the line then runs east toward the DRC border.

Angola requires a visa for most nationalities — arrange it before you arrive, as visa on arrival is not reliable. The country is expensive by regional standards, and you'll need to bring US dollars or euros to exchange; card payments are limited outside of Luanda.
