Monte do Oapacete, also known as Serra da Cobra, is another of the park's inland mountain landmarks. Its value for travellers is less about climbing a named summit and more about seeing how abruptly rock rises from the surrounding arid country.
Use it as part of a slow inland route through Iona rather than as a destination on its own. The mountain country can be harsh, exposed, and beautiful, with the sense that the desert has stripped the landscape down to its bones.
