Kwanza Lodge sits on the southern bank of the Kwanza River, just outside the northern boundary of Kissama National Park. It is the main organised accommodation serving the park — a complex of stone-walled rondavels and a central lodge with a pool overlooking the river. Rooms are comfortable rather than luxurious and prices are high by Angolan standards.
The lodge organises both game drives into Kissama and boat trips on the river. For most visitors it is the practical base for a visit. Kissama itself has only a handful of basic rangers' rest huts inside the park and no equivalent of an Anglo-South-African safari camp; the lodge is effectively the only option for non-camping travellers. Book well in advance.
