Namibe has a small airport (Yuri Gagarin Airport) with domestic flights to Luanda. TAAG Angola Airlines operates the route; flights are infrequent so book ahead. The drive from Luanda is about 800 km and takes 10–12 hours on generally good but sometimes rough roads through the interior highlands. From Lubango, the nearest major city, it is about 250 km by road. Car hire in Luanda or Lubango is the most flexible option; a four-wheel drive is strongly recommended if you plan to leave the main road.
