Namibe's appeal is rooted in its landscape: the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic here, creating a setting that feels unlike anywhere else in Angola. The town itself is pleasant enough — wide colonial avenues, a good fish market, a fishing harbour — but the real draws are in the surrounding province: the desert, the empty beaches, and further afield Iona National Park. The city is the logical base for exploring this stretch of Angola's southern coast.
