Fondation Zinsou is one of Benin's most important contemporary art institutions. Founded in Cotonou in 2005, it works across exhibitions, art education, publishing, and a museum space in Ouidah, with the Cotonou site functioning as a more flexible lab and exhibition address.
For travellers, the appeal is simple: it is one of the few places in the city where you can reliably encounter serious contemporary African art rather than souvenir craft. Check the current programme before making a special trip, because exhibitions rotate and some of the foundation's largest shows now happen in Ouidah.
