Getting There

By air: Phillip Gaonwe Matante International Airport (IATA: FRW) is located about 3 km northwest of the city centre. Air Botswana operates scheduled flights between Francistown and Gaborone, with some connections to Maun. The airport is small but functional; book ahead as capacity is limited.

By road from the south: The A1 highway connects Francistown to Gaborone (about 400 km, four to five hours). The road is tarred and in reasonable condition. Intercape and other long-distance bus operators run daily services on this route.

From Zimbabwe (Plumtree border): The Plumtree/Ramokgwebana border crossing is roughly 90 km east of Francistown. Minibus combis connect Bulawayo to the border, and onward transport to Francistown is usually available on the Botswana side. The crossing is generally straightforward for most nationalities, though queues can build on weekends.

From Zambia (Kazungula): From Kasane in the north, the Kazungula border connects to Zambia. Francistown is about 700 km south of Kasane via the A33 and A1 highways — a full day's drive.

By bus: Several bus companies run between Gaborone and Francistown, with some continuing north to Kasane or east to the Zimbabwe border. The main bus rank is near the central market. Journey times are longer than driving due to stops.
