Douala International Airport (DLA) is the main entry point into Cameroon, with direct flights from Paris, Brussels, Istanbul, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and several West African cities. Ethiopian Airlines, Air France, and Turkish Airlines are the main carriers for intercontinental routes. The airport is about 10 km from the Akwa city center; taxis are negotiated and should be agreed before leaving the terminal.
From Yaoundé, the capital, a comfortable train runs several times daily — the journey takes around 4 hours and is scenic as it descends from the plateau through the forest. Shared bush taxis (voyager agencies on the Bassa Road) are faster but more cramped. The road between Douala and Yaoundé (the N1 highway) is good by Cameroonian standards.
Bus services connect Douala to Bafoussam and the western highlands, to Limbe on the coast, and to Nigerian border crossings near Mamfé. The main bus companies — General Express, Guarantee Express — depart from agencies in the Akwa and Bassa districts.
