The Blackitude Museum (Musée de la Blackitude) is a privately founded institution dedicated to documenting and celebrating African and Afro-diasporic culture worldwide. The collection is extensive — statues, masks, textiles, tools, photographs, and documents drawn from across the African continent and the diaspora in the Americas and Europe. The focus is explicitly political as well as aesthetic: the museum frames its collections as evidence of a continuous cultural heritage that survived the Atlantic slave trade.
It is smaller and less well-known than the National Museum, but many visitors find it more focused and more thoughtfully curated. The founder's personal passion for the subject shows in the arrangement and the accompanying materials. Worth a visit for anyone interested in African cultural history beyond the tourist circuit.
