M'Baïki is a small town and most of it is walkable on foot, though the heat and humidity make long walks tiring. The centre — market, prefecture building, main road — is compact enough to navigate without transport.
For travel into the surrounding forest or to outlying villages, you will need a vehicle or a motorcycle taxi (moto-taxi). Moto-taxis are the standard short-distance transport in town and can be hired for short excursions on dirt tracks. Agree a price before setting off. For longer trips into the forest or towards the Lobaye River, a 4WD or pickup truck is necessary, and they can sometimes be hired locally with a driver through guesthouses or local contacts.
There is no public bus service within the town or to nearby villages. For travel to Bangui or further south towards Bayanga (the gateway to Dzanga-Sangha), shared vehicles depart from the main road when full — this is bush-taxi travel in the original sense, with departure times entirely dependent on passenger numbers.
The forest tracks around M'Baïki are poorly maintained and impassable in the wet season even by motorcycle. Plan any forest excursion with local knowledge about current conditions.
