M'Baïki's central market is the commercial heart of the town and a genuine window into regional life. Traders bring produce from across Lobaye Prefecture — cassava, plantain, peanuts, smoked fish, bushmeat — alongside forest products including palm oil, kola nuts, and medicinal plants. Coffee, the region's main cash crop, is also traded here during harvest season.
The market is busiest in the morning. Vendors include Aka people from surrounding forest communities selling forest goods and crafts alongside Bantu farmers, traders from Bangui, and occasional buyers from the DRC border areas. The interaction of forest and agricultural economies visible here offers a social picture of the Lobaye that is harder to find in any other setting.
Like all markets in the CAR, it operates in its own rhythm and should be approached with patience and respect. Photography of people requires their explicit consent.
