Cathédrale du Sacré-Coeur

Brazzaville's Sacred Heart Cathedral is the seat of the city's Catholic archdiocese — a substantial brick church built during the colonial period that remains one of the landmarks of the central city. The interior is cooler and quieter than the streets outside, with painted stations of the cross and a choir loft that gives the nave an unexpectedly spacious feel.

Less celebrated than the Basilique Sainte-Anne but more centrally located, the cathedral is a natural stop on any walk through the older parts of Brazzaville. Mass is well attended and musically vibrant — if your timing is right, the Sunday choir is worth hearing.
