Eating Out

Goma punches above its weight for food. The lakeside has a string of bar-restaurants serving grilled tilapia (sambaza when small), brochettes, and chips, with a view across the water to Gisenyi. Au Bon Pain, an unassuming bakery near the centre, has built a reputation for fresh bread, croissants and pizza. La Cervelle and Le Chalet are reliable sit-down options for steak, pasta, and Congolese stews; both attract NGO staff and the small expat community. Street food revolves around brochettes, chikwangue (fermented cassava), and grilled corn.
